Earth Day

The first Earth Day was celebrated on April 22, 1970. It was created by U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson as a way to bring environmental concerns into focus after a major oil spill in Santa Barbara, California.

Living in Hawaii, I’m surrounded by so much natural beauty. But alongside that, there’s also the growing presence of a concrete jungle. With more buildings being proposed, it can sometimes feel like the very thing that makes this place so special is slowly being taken away—the beauty that draws so many people here in the first place.

Because of that, I’ve been thinking more intentionally about the choices we make at Coconutgirl Studio.

If you’ve ordered from us before, you might remember that our stickers were wrapped in tissue paper and sealed in a cellophane sleeve. Moving forward, we’ll be simplifying that process. We will no longer be using tissue paper, and once our current stock of cellophane bags runs out, we’ll be exploring more eco-friendly alternatives that still protect your stickers while being kinder to the ʻāina—the land.

Presentation has always been important to me. There’s something special about opening a package, even when it’s something you picked out for yourself. It’s a small moment of joy—a little “treat yourself” feeling. Whether your stickers are there to remind you of an appointment, mark an errand, or simply add a touch of personality to your planner, I want that experience to still feel thoughtful and special.

I also wanted to take a moment to acknowledge something you may have noticed. Over the first few months of the year, we slowly—and then quite quickly—updated the look of the shop. It didn’t feel as cohesive as I wanted, and even I found myself getting a little lost navigating it. My hope is that this new, cleaner look feels easier to move through and makes it simpler to find exactly what you’re looking for.

Looking ahead, I’m really excited for what’s to come. We will be introducing more planner accessories soon, and I’m hoping to have summer kits ready before the end of May. There are also a few cozy bundles and little surprises in the works that I can’t wait to share with you.
